George Harry Darden II was born on November 12, 1955, and was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 3, 2024.
George, AKA "Dr G" was an accomplished Promoter and DJ originally from Cincinnati, Ohio. George received his BA in Communications from Howard University and a Master’s in Project Management from George Washington University. In the 70’s, "Dr G", was known as George Mann at WHUR-FM. In 2006 George retired from Verizon Communications after 27 years of dedicated service. He later Co-founded Chocolate City Alliance, an organization dedicated to the preservation of "P-Funk" music! In 2016, Chocolate City Alliance created the annual Funkateers Ball as part of the official opening of the Museum of African American History & Culture in Washington, DC.
George leaves to mourn but to cherish his precious memories: Devoted wife of 31 years, Andrea Darden of Columbia, MD; one daughter, Alicia Drummond (Devin) of Laurel, MD; one son Justin Darden of Columbia, MD; four sisters, Tiffany Darden(Bo) of New York, NY, Josette Darden-Sheldrick (Kevin) of Columbia, MD, Kym Smallwood of Washington DC, Carla Debnam (Dwayne) of Dayton, MD; Step-Dad Wilbur Smallwood of Woodstock, MD; Step- Mom Gwen Darden of Johns Creek, GA;
3 grandsons, Jakobi Mansaray, Cameron Drummond, Micah Drummond of Laurel, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
