IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Veronia B.
Pierce
April 4, 1947 – October 6, 2015
Obituary
Ronnie received her education through the Baltimore Public School System. She was a graduate of Dunbar Senior High School. During which, she united with her high School sweetheart the late Donald L. "Don" Pierce. After graduating, Ronnie worked at St. Joseph Hospital as a nurses' aide. She also attended their Nursing Program where she received her certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Ronnie also practiced nursing at Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC). Not only was she dedicated to serving and caring for people but she was also a dedicated member of the United Healthcare Workers East Union.
. In November of 1968, Ronnie united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Don. Out of this beautiful union there were four marvelous children: two sons, Zan B. Ford and Donald A. Pierce of Baltimore, MD; and two daughters, Quinetta S. Pierce of Virginia Beach, VA and Donna S. Hawkins of Alexandria, VA. Ronnie was a dedicated wife. In support of her husbands' military career Ronnie and the children relocated to Norfolk, VA in the mid-1980s. It was then that she became an active volunteer for the Norfolk Public Schools System for nearly 10 years.
In addition, she was a Childcare Provider for military families. And was later employed by the Navy Exchange Food Services; were she delightedly served Ben and Jerry's ice cream to service members and their families. Ronnie and Don were in marital bliss for nearly 47 years.
Ronnie had many hobbies and interest. Including but not limited to: playing softball, crabbing, crocheting, playing BINGO, playing games, dancing (was a frequent participant on the Buddy Dean Show in the late 50s and early 60s), pocketing old family photos and collecting valuable antiques. She adored red roses and angels as well as a passion for hats. Ronnie wore an array of hats. They came in many different shapes, sizes, and colors. The bigger the better! Those who knew her knew she wasn't the greatest cook; however, she could make a mean spaghetti.
Ronnie had a very attracting personality. She was very much a social butterfly! Not only did she know people but people knew her. Her presence…her smile…her laughter brought comfort, peace and happiness to everyone who knew her. Yet at the same time, she could be loud, outspoken, and strongminded. But with no harm only lots of love. Ronnie loved her family. She was proud of her family and always spoke passionately about her children and grandchildren. Ronnie shall always be remembered as being a loving, kind, zealous soul.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Elijah Pompey and Alice Pompey; her parents and her youngest brother.
She leaves to mourn: her children, eight grandchildren, Zan B. Ford, Jr., Jada A. Ford, Termira Ford, and Donald A. Pierce, Jr. of Baltimore, MD, Chelisa L. Painter of Dublin, Ireland, Daneda M. Simon of Portsmouth, VA, Kaleb B. Pierce and Israel B. Pierce of Alexandria, VA; one granddaughter-in-law, Mia Ford, of Baltimore, MD; three great-grandchildren, Lenaia Russell, Zaiden Ford and Loren M. Pierce of Baltimore, MD; two sisters, one brother; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Lovingly Submitted
