IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sandra Carlean
Carter
July 5, 1943 – October 24, 2024
On the evening of Thursday, October 24, 2024, SANDRA CARLENE CARTER departed this life on a journey to her heavenly home.
Affectionately known as "Sandy", she was born in Baltimore, Maryland to the late William Eugene Carter and Thelma Gertrude Snowden-Carter, on July 5, 1943.
Sandy was an adored granddaughter of the late Rev. William Allen Carter & Mary Addie Petersen-Carter; and George Washington Snowden & Sophia Elizabeth Oden-Snowden.
Along with her late sisters, Janet Carter-Capel, Valerie West, and late brother, Jimmy Ben Jr.; She was reared in a nurturing Christian home and family.
Sandy was, and would be described by many of us as shy; but when she had something to say, there was no stopping her. Her daily phone calls to family and friends were always on her to-do list. She was sincere and unselfish in her sharing with, and caring for others.
A "sweet spirit" described her to a "T". She enjoyed gospel music as well as R&B; but most of all just being with family at home or away, made her the happiest.
Sandy was a loving, nurturing, and protective mother to her three children, Kirk Alvin Carter, Jeffrey Michael Hayes, and Robin Annette Carter. To them, she leaves loving and cherished memories.
A lifetime member of the Pumphrey community, Sandy began and completed her primary education at Pumphrey Elementary School and continued on to the historic Wiley H. Bates High School in Annapolis, Maryland.
As a Healthcare Assistant, she was at one time employed by the Lincoln Nursing Home. She carried those skills with her as she continued In-Home healthcare. She was quite at home during the time she worked in the Golden Corral bakery; and we can't forget her little candy business that was the delight of the neighborhood children.
Sandy was a lifetime member of St. John United Methodist Church where she began her spiritual experience. Whether in Sunday School or the Methodist Youth Fellowship; she always looked forward to participating in special programs such as the Christmas "Bush Shake", Children's Day, and Easter Sunday Services. As a small child, her favorite seat was in a pew next to her grandfather George, who always had a bag of goodies for the grandchildren. She was truly spirit-filled and as an adult served for many years as a dedicated Communion Steward.
Her grandson, Kirk "Manny" Carter preceded her in death.
Sandy also leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy, her three children, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, daughter in law: Rosemaria Somerville-Hayes,
god-daughter: Brielle Marie Jones, nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives, and cherished friends: Paulette Langford-Parker, Victoria Houston, and Brenda Wright-Harrell.
