Obituary

Roosevelt Theodore Grimes, the son of the late Benjamin Grimes and Benzner McMichael Grimes, was born on October I, 1940 in Bamberg, South Carolina. He received his education in Bamberg County and graduated from Richard Carroll High School.

Seeking greater economic opportunities, he moved north, first residing in Pennsylvania before eventually settling in New York City. There, he married his first wife, the late Lula Mae. Later in life, he married the late Betty Ann Green.

Roosevelt dedicated more than 30 years of service to Howmedica/Pfizer, where he proudly worked manufacturing prosthetic devices and medical implants that improved the lives of countless individuals. Following his retirement, he and his late wife Betty, relocated to Maryland, where they enjoyed their retirement together.

Roosevelt found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved working on cars, taking long walks, riding his bicycle, relaxing on his deck while enjoying the fresh air, and spending time socializing with his neighbors and friends. He was a member of Asbury Town Neck United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Ephraim Grimes and his first wife Lula Mae and his second wife, Betty Ann.

He leaves behind to cherish his fond memories his children, Benzner Grimes, Rodney Grimes, Ronda (Neal) Spence, Jennie Greene, and Lashawn (Michael) Russell; his siblings, Calvin Grimes and Helen Carter of South Carolina; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many other relatives, neighbors, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, warmth, and friendship.

Roosevelt will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love for family, his generous spirit, and the lasting impact he made on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
