Obituary

On February 23, 1958, James and Odessa Flemming were blessed with one daughter, Mira Jenice. She was their pride and joy. Mira was raised in a Christian home and baptized at Metropolitan United Methodist Church where she began her spiritual journey. She was an active young lady in her community, she played piano and softball, was a Brownie, and participated in Girl Scout Troop #527.

Mira attended George T. Cromwell Elementary School, where she was the only Black girl in her first class of integration in 1964. For secondary school, she attended Lindale Junior High. In addition to school, Mira volunteered at Crownsville State Hospital at the early age of 14, there she extended her caring spirit to psychiatric patients. During high school, her work ethic developed as botha dedicated student and professional. Shewas a member of the Future Business Leaders of America and served as a Secretary's Assistant for the Maryland State Department of Education. Mira graduated from Andover High School in 1976.

A devoted love for learning planted Mira at Bowie State College, now Bowie State University, for her undergraduate years. As a college student, Mira began her career with the State of Maryland's Great Oaks Center as a Direct Care Aide Worker in the summer of 1980. After continuous hard work, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education in May 1985. She also taught at Marley Middle School in Glen Burnie, Maryland, to complete the internship requirements for her undergraduate degree.

On December 21, 1981, Mira married her high school sweetheart, Clarence Nutter Sr. Out of this union, the two were blessed with two wonderful children Clarence Nutter, Jr. and Jasmine Nutter. As her family grew, so did her faith. She deeply loved the Lord and instilled this same love in her family, while being an avid woman of faith at Metropolitan United Methodist Church (MUMC).

At MUMC, she served on numerous committees in leadership roles and other capacities as needed. The ministries she served on are as follows: Usher-Junior Usher, United Methodist Youth Fellowship, two choirs: The Wesleyan Choir and Metropolitan Inspirational Choir (MIC), Trustee, Counter, Staff Parish Relations Committee, United Women in Faith (formally United Methodist Women), Family Ministries, Homecoming Committee Chair & Co-Chair, 95th and 100th Church Anniversary Committees, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Caring and Sharing, and Lay Leadership. Aside from church, Mira's hobbies were abundant, she loved journaling, traveling, dancing, playing spades, bowling, roller-skating, and spending quality time with her family and friends.

Mira furthered her graduate studies at the University of Maryland in 1994, obtaining a graduate certificate in Therapeutic Recreation. In 1995, she returned to Bowie State University and began to pursue graduate level courses in Special Education. One of her proudest moments was being initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She was known by her beloved sorors as "Tear Drop," which stemmed from her most cherished quality by all who loved her; her sweet, sensitive heart. On the line she stood as #8, a number she referenced as a symbol of new beginnings.

For 41 years, Mira had an extremely rewarding career with the State of Maryland, where her titles included Direct Care Aide, Activity Therapist, Program Surveyor, and the most recent, Coordinator of Community Services. Mira exhibited a life of service worthy of imitation. She mentored girls and young women with broken spirits and gave care to the needy.

God in his infinite wisdom called Mira's beautiful soul to her heavenly home, suddenly on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 12:40 am. Mira was preceded in death by her father, James Flemming Sr.; brothers: Erodius Flemming, James Flemming Jr., Jerome Flemming, nieces Terri Flemming-Moore and Tamika Clay. Mira leaves to cherish her memory mother, Odessa Flemming; two children: Clarence Nutter Jr. (Danielle) and Jasmine Nutter (Jaimie); seven grandchildren: Quincy, Taraji, Jackson, Jameson, Milan, Milani, and Jrue; sister in law, Barbara Flemming: two aunts Hattie King and Golden Oden; God-sister Rhonda Flemming; three god-children: Shawnta, Mia, and Resha; special cousin-sister Sherita Brown, nieces, nephews, cousins; special friends, Joyce Coleman, Deborah Jacobs, Roxanne Johnson, Paula Stokes-Kearney, Gloria Pinkney, and Kelly White; prayer partner Sister Gwendolyn Kent, other relatives and friends.
