Obituary

Kelvin Conrad Smith, affectionately known as Kelly, entered into eternal rest on March 1, 2026, at the age of 74. He was born on August 8, 1951 to the late George Richard and Helen Beatrice Johnson Smith. Kelly grew up in Southern Maryland and was educated in Anne County Public Schools. He graduated from Southern High School and later received his associate degree from Prince George’s Community College. He served his country as a member of the United States Navy.

A dedicated worker, Kelly was employed at numerous hospitals in the DMV. His last place of employment was at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.

Kelly attended Chew’s Memorial United Methodist Church as a child, where he was surrounded by a caring community and learned the importance of faith and fellowship.

In 1978, Kelly and Mary V. Tolson entered into Holy Matrimony. They shared a life together, raising two children, George and Gerald, as a loving family.

Kelly enjoyed bowling and loved working on cars, pastimes that brought him much enjoyment. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Kelly was preceded in death by siblings Doris Ann, Bruce Michael and Ricardo L. Smith.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary V. Smith, two sons, George A. Matthews, Sr., and Gerald A. Matthews, Sr., (Priscilla) Four brothers: George R. Smith, Jr., (Paige), Cornell A. Smith (Carla), Lorenzo L. Smith (Monica), Elvado Smith (Ruby), one sister, Wyseola Smith

Eight Grandchildren: George IV and Kayla Matthews, Brittany Thomas (Sean), Kiyra, Eric, Gerald, Jr., Cameron and Morgan Matthews.

Three great-grandchildren: Alaya, Elijah and Thuany. And, a host of other family and friends.
