Obituary

George Washington Williams, Jr., age 76, was called home on September 11, 2025, in Baltimore, MD. Born on June 29, 1949, in North Whitakers, NC, he was the cherished son of Luetoria Williams who is currently 93 years young, and the late George Washington Williams, Sr. His maternal grandparents were Eddie Lee Conyers and Endie Williams of North Whitakers, NC. He was the fraternal grandson of Moses and Dora Avent Williams of Endfield, NC.

George was a beacon of strength, resilience, and faith throughout his life. George was baptized at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Portsmouth, Virginia, under the leadership of the late Rev. Harvey N. Johnson. During his youth, he was active in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and faithfully served on the Boys' Usher Board. He attended I.C. Norcom High School, where he developed a strong interest in electronics—a passion he later pursued at Norfolk State University. He graduated in 1969 with a degree in Electronic Technology. After college he was drafted into the Military and served in the United States Navy from 1970 to 1976 . He received commendations from the commanding officer during his assignment on the U S S Josephus Daniels Guided Missle Frigate, and received a Good Conduct Medal before his honorable discharge in 1976.

In the mid-70s, George met his soulmate and future wife, Ida Brown at Hewlitt Packard in Avondale, Pennsylvania. They sealed their love in marriage in June 1982 in St. Paul, Minnesota, and their beloved twins Angie and G were born shortly after. George and "Betty" were the very personification of love and companionship, always together, exploring life's adventures side by side. They were inseparable. George spent decades working in the field of computers, technology, and engineering from Minnesota, to Wisconson, to New Mexico, to Maryland where they have called home for the last 30+ years.

In 1994, shortly after moving to Maryland George suffered a stroke and received a diagnosis of Sarcoidosis. Even though he never formally worked following his stroke, he remained active and made it his life's mission to do God's work in the community and his resilience and commitment to lifelong learning were truly inspirational. His service as a volunteer chaplain at the Howard County Hospital, his involvement in the men's group and the American Legion, and his active participation in the Howard County Low Vision Group at the senior center are testament to his selfless spirit and commitment to his community. Geroge spent a lot of his time praying for people in their last days, offering words of comfort to families, practicing Reiki, or delivering short sermonettes and quoting scripture. George's spirit of service shone brightly.

In his free time, he would often be found tinkering with Ham Radios alongside his brother Alton, running errands with his wife Ida, or entertaining Willow during playtime. She loved her PopPop. Notable for his sweet tooth, George savored life's little pleasures. Whether it was home baked cookies by his wife fresh out of the oven, cakes, or candy, he indulged with joy, often delighting in a scoop of ice cream for dinner. He and Ida were familiar faces when the red light was on at Krispy Kreme.

George's life was marked by perseverance, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to serving others. His impact on his community will continue to be felt for years to come. We are heartened by the knowledge that his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us. Rest in peace, George Washington Williams, Jr. You will be deeply missed.

George leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory.
