IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carlean G
Clark
March 27, 1935 – December 4, 2022
On March 27, 1935 Sherman and Carlean Bouyer were blessed with their fifth-child Carlean Evelyn Bouyer, in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
She attended the two-room school in Freetown where she sort of became the teacher's pet. After leaving elementary school, she attended Wiley H. Bates High School in Annapolis, Maryland. Being chosen to be in the chorus was a joy because we performed on black and white television. She graduated from Bates as the Co-Valedictorian.
After graduation from Bates High School, she matriculated and graduated from Maryland State Teachers College, now Bowie State University. She also attended Morgan State and the University of Maryland, College Park, where she earned an advanced degree.
Her teaching career began at Magothy's three-room school in Pasadena, Maryland, which is now a part of Mt. Zion Church. She also taught at Jones, Harmans, Severn, and Jacobsville Elementary Schools. She enjoyed performing in plays for the other classes. She also composed a school song, "O Jacobsville, Dear Jacobsville," which was sung every morning over the Public Announcement system.
Living in a Christian home, she attended Sunday school and even taught the adult class for a little while. She was a member of the United Women In Faith (formerly named Women's Society, as well as United Methodist Women). She served as president for one year in 1973 and held the position of treasurer for 13 years.
Carlean was a member of Hall United Methodist Church first junior usher board, which was also a choir directed by Rev. Frye, and named the Hammond Jewelers. Her other singing groups that she served with were Young Adult, Senior Choir No. 2 and the Intergenerational Choir. She served as secretary of the Administrative Board, and the church secretary for a very long time.
She married Marion Gaither, the father of her son, Avery Gaither.
Carlean received many certificates of honor from different organizations for her dedicated service.
After retiring from teaching and being married to Eugene Clark, Carlean worked at the Marley Station Mall at the Customer Service Desk for 17 years. During this time, she did a couple of children programs in the Center Court. That was an honor for her. She and her husband, Eugene, also posed for a picture to advertise clothing from Eddie Bauer, a store in the mall, for a magazine.
She joined the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa Inc. (teachers only) in 1968 and remained a member until her death.
She bowled for a long time with the Jolly Rogers League. She enjoyed traveling which included Spain, Alaska, Hawaii, Florida, Georgia, California, and Texas and went on many cruises and week long bus trips.
Carlean leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Avery Gaither and Kenneth Clark (Phyllis); one daughter, Joyce Edwards; one sister, Florence Anderson (Rodell); one brother, Ellsworth Bouyer (Grace); adopted sister, Delores Cager; and a host of grandchildren, nephews and nieces, including special nieces, Deanna Goodwin and Sherita Brown, family and
