Obituary

On Wednesday, June 3, 2020, God called home one of his angels, Barbara Sue Stevenson. Barbara was born June 21, 1940 to the late Alex and Della Smith. She was the youngest of nine children. Barbara was born and raised in Stoneville, North Carolina. She attended Stoneville Elementary School and Charles Drew High School, where she played basketball until her graduation in 1958. After graduation she worked for a while in Stoneville helping her mother. In 1959, she moved To Baltimore, Maryland to live with her sister Glendora. While living in Baltimore, she attended Morgan State for two years. She then began her work career. Barbara began working for Westinghouse, which later became Northrop Grumman. She was very dedicated to her job. She retired in 2001 after many years of service. Barbara married Clarence Stevenson in 1968. Their union produced two wonderful children, Erica and Aaron. After many years of marriage, the union ended in divorce. Barbara moved to Glen Burnie where she was embraced by the Stevenson family. She looked forward to attending the family functions that they had. Barbara loved being around her family. Her favorite past time was her weekly telephone conversations she would have with her sisters Gloria and Jean. They would talk for hours. Barbara joined Hall United Methodist Church when she moved to Glen Burnie. She was a faithful member.  Barbara was on the usher board for forty years and helped with the food pantry. She attended until her health prevented her from attending. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Alex and Della Smith, her sisters Ruby Price, Elizabeth Smith, Glendora Vaughan, Gloria Wilson, Frances Jean Kennedy, Dorothy Smith, Annie Smith and one brother Delos Smith. She leaves to carry on her legacy her children, Erica and Aaron Stevenson. She also leaves nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and a host of friends.
